The spectacular York Minster is a world renowned masterpiece of architecture and design. One of the largest of its type in Northern Europe it is of cruciform design with an octagonal Chapter House.

One of the great attractions that York is recognised for are the City Walls. Stretching 2.75 miles the walls encircle an area of 263 acres. Retaining all four bar (gates) into the City they are the most complete example of Medieval walls in England.

Clifford’s Tower is the last remaining part of one of the two castles built in York in 1068 by William the Conqueror. Originally part of York Castle on the West side of the River Ouse.

The York Guilds and Companies’ production of the Mystery Plays, using waggons moved between playing stations, recreates the spectacle of medieval festivities. The plays are performed from noon until dusk on 2 Sundays in July.
